Alpha was the most important station on the narrow-gauge Eureka & Palisade Railroad in 1875 when a small town had been formed here in Denay Valley. Alpha never exceeded more than seventy five residents and was felled short at the closing of its post office in 1879. Today, a ranch exists at the town site along SR 278.

Alpha Ranch is located 38 miles south of US 6 in Railroad Valley.
- Head west out of Eureka to SR 278 and continue north for 28.9 miles to Denay Valley Road. The Alpha Ranch sits right at this intersection. Please respect all private property signs.
